Our First Booth at the Colville Home & Garden Show

Dungeon Mistress Chronicles represents at the local Home & Garden show.

A New Adventure in Colville

This past weekend we took our first step into something new for Dungeon Mistress Chronicles: hosting a booth at the Colville Home & Garden Show at Spokane Falls Community College – Colville Campus.

It was our first time bringing Dungeons & Dragons into a setting like this, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Would people be curious? Confused? Excited?

As it turns out… a little bit of everything. The venue wasn't packed with people interested in Dungeons & Dragons, but we still found plenty of them mixed in!

Meeting Our Kind of People

Over the two days of the show, we met many people who lit up the moment they saw the words Dungeons & Dragons.

Some were longtime players. Others were curious newcomers. And some were what we lovingly call our kind of enthusiasts.

Conversations ranged from favorite D&D media like Vox Machina, Critical Role, and Dimension 20—you know… the greats. We swapped stories about favorite characters, unforgettable campaign moments, and the strange magic that happens when a table of players gets caught up in a shared story.

We also had the opportunity to talk about what makes Dungeon Mistress Chronicles a little different from other local hobby and game shops like The Dungeon Games or The Dragon Curiosity Shop.

Those places do wonderful work hosting games and offering unique items for the community. Dungeon Mistress Chronicles, however, focuses on something a little different: crafting immersive stories where players can step into their characters and truly live out their fantasy adventures through carefully designed Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. Our business strives to host, run and supply everything needed for each unique adventure!

It was a reminder that even in a smaller town, there are plenty of people who share a love of fantasy, imagination, and community.

The Bingo Card Adventurers

Of course, not everyone stopped for a conversation.

Some visitors were on a mission: get their bingo card stamped for prizes and move on.

We happily obliged. Even the quickest interactions are still a chance to introduce someone to the idea that Dungeons & Dragons is alive and thriving in our small town.

Conversations About What D&D Really Is

Not every conversation at the booth was lighthearted.

A few visitors shared concerns about Dungeons & Dragons based on what they believed the game represents. The game has been around since the late 1970s, which means its image was heavily influenced by the 90s Satanic Panic era. Because of that history, some people still associate it with real-world religions or worry that it could negatively influence a community.

We listened respectfully and shared our perspective.

Dungeons & Dragons is not a religion, nor is it a spiritual practice. It is a collaborative storytelling game, no different from other imaginative hobbies like theater, improv, or reading fantasy novels. The dragons, magic, and monsters exist only in the shared story players create together at the table.

At its heart, the game is about creativity, cooperation, problem-solving, and imagination. Players step into fictional roles and work together to overcome challenges, tell stories, and build friendships.

Those conversations were an important reminder that one of the best ways to address misconceptions is to show what the game is actually about—a group of people laughing, telling stories, and sharing a creative experience together. Oh, can't forget snacks!!

Dice, Dice, and More Dice

We also brought along a variety of dice sets for people to browse.

Some of the favorites included:

  • Two steam punk pocket watch style dice cases with mini dice - we will be stocking more of these!

  • A charming honey-themed tin

  • A cozy coffee-themed tin

Several sets found new homes over the weekend, which always makes us happy.

Local Food Highlights

No community event is complete without good food.

We enjoyed some excellent hot dogs from Street Dogs, a local vendor serving up creative hot dog styles alongside their wonderfully strange and delicious “dirty sodas.”

We also picked up some cheese curds from a dairy in Chewelah, which will soon be shared at one of our local D&D tables.

Face Painting and Family Fun

Our kids also had a great time at the event. They received free face painting from E&H Handcrafted Designs, which added a little extra color to the weekend.

Spreading the Word

One of the biggest goals for the weekend was letting people know about what’s coming next for Dungeon Mistress Chronicles.

We had the chance to promote two upcoming adventures:

🎭 Our First Live D&D Show

Everyone Dies in Barovia

From Beadle & Grimm’s Faster, Purple Worm!

📅 March 21st : 2–4 PM Seekers Bookshop – Colville, WA

This live show will bring the chaos, storytelling, and unpredictable magic of Dungeons & Dragons to an audience.

New Campaign Starting Soon

We’re also preparing to launch a local campaign:

Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

The campaign may begin as early as March 14th, 2026, and we’re excited to welcome both experienced players and curious newcomers to the table.

Looking Back

For a first booth experience, the Home & Garden Show was a wonderful introduction to sharing what we do with the broader community.

We met curious newcomers, longtime fans, skeptical observers, and plenty of people who simply wanted to see what this strange little fantasy hobby is all about.

Most of all, we were reminded that community is built one conversation at a time.

And sometimes all it takes is a table, a handful of dice, and a little imagination.

Colville now offers a place to hang out, let your imagination stretch and spend 2 hours playing a cooperative fantasy game. Bring your friends and make new ones with Dungeon Mistress Chronicles!
